I am about to embark on a new life, in which I'll be travelling around the eastern United States, but staying in each location for 3-6 months. I'll be working during the day, and then researching and sight-seeing in my off time.
ut hy xplore? The primary purpose of my journey is to do the serious family history research that can't be done online. There are a lot of old records that haven't been digitized, so you still have to go to the courthouses and history centers to sift through papers to find what you're looking for. Spending several months at each location will give me time to do this research, and then to incorporate it into the information I already have, and go back to follow up if it's warranted. It will also help me get a better feeling for their lives to live in the same area for a while. Plus I've also found when you become a regular visitor to research places like this, in time, people offer more resources you might have missed otherwise.
The locations have been selected based on places my ancestors lived in years gone by. But while I'm in each of these places, I plan to explore and experience as much as I can. Based on my interests, and recommendations from others, I've set out in search of these types of destinations:
